Just the other day, I posted on Instagram about why I wasn’t going to post on Instagram. How’s that for confusing?
As business owners, it's not difficult to get caught up in a daily, repetitive routine. Now let me preface this by saying that there is nothing wrong with forming habits that make living your life and running your business a more efficient and enjoyable experience for you, your employees, and your clients. However, when it comes to sharing content on social media or even on your website's blog, being repetitive is not always the best way to go. Let me explain why.
Loss of Interest
Do you follow any companies or brands on social media that post the same things over and over or boring things that no one cares to see after a while? Do you eventually find yourself skipping through their stories and scrolling past their content whenever it shows up on your feed? If so, you are not alone, and the reason for this is simple. You don't feel valued by the business nor can you relate to their messaging.
When brands don't take the time out to truly understand the wants and needs of their audience, they are doing their business a great disservice. Consumers and potential clients spend money and show interest with businesses that they know, like, and trust. If it's clear that a business has its own selfish agenda and the consumer is the last thought, it's only a matter of time before that consumer moves on to something better.
There is some content that is evergreen, meaning it withstands the test of time and can be refreshed and reposted over and over again with minimal changes. However, not all content falls under this category and it's very important that businesses understand this.
Depending on the industry, things can change pretty often. That's why it's extremely important to stay up to date on trends, laws, and other points of information that can affect your business. Staying current makes the information that you have to share relevant and sets you apart as the expert in breaking industry news. Timing is not something that should be overlooked when sharing information on social media. Be sure to engage in social listening and make it a priority to remain educated on all aspects of the field in which you do business.
Taking the time out to truly listen to and focus on the wants and needs of your audience is a non-negotiable for success. If you need to take a quick break to restructure and come up with a strategy, allow yourself that grace. Don’t waste time posting the same thing over and over and expecting a round of applause for your consistency. Being consistent doesn’t matter when no one is paying attention to the information that you are sharing. Make sure your posts are relevant, relatable, and informative and you will develop a loyal social following who genuinely look forward to your posts daily.
